Beginning in May 2025, a total of 28 AP subjects will be administered in a digital format using the Bluebook™ application.
The AP Program is gradually expanding digital testing in order to enhance exam security and fairness.
The College Board, administrator of the AP and SAT programs, introduced digital testing starting with the International SAT in Spring 2023. During the May 2023 AP Exams, selected subjects were partially administered in digital format in limited regions within the United States.
Starting in May 2025, 28 AP subjects worldwide will transition to a fully digital testing system.
Students will take digital AP Exams using the Bluebook application.
For the 28 subjects listed below, paper-based exams will no longer be offered, except for students who have received approved accommodations from the College Board.
For mathematics, science, and economics subjects requiring graphs or symbolic notation, students will review free-response questions in Bluebook but write their answers by hand in a paper answer booklet.
These digital exams will be administered at schools and authorized test centers worldwide, including the United States.
Late-testing AP Exams will also be conducted in digital format.
Students who have previously taken the Digital SAT are already familiar with the Bluebook application, which will also be used for the 2025 Digital AP Exams.
Digital AP Exams cannot be taken at home. As with traditional paper exams, students must report to their registered school or test center to take the exam.
16 subjects will be conducted as Fully Digital
12 subjects will follow a Hybrid Digital format
For the following subjects, both multiple-choice and free-response responses are completed directly within the Bluebook application.
All responses are automatically submitted at the end of the exam.
